HC Deb 26 February 1970 vol 796 c388W
Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity if she will introduce legislation to compel employers to provide compulsory fire drill for their employees, during working hours, in the interests of safety.

Mr. Harold Walker

The Factories Act, 1961 and the Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act, 1963 require employers to ensure that their employees are familiar with the means of escape and the routine to be followed in case of fire.

Publications by my Department are available which provide guidance about the fulfilment of the obligations of the Acts. These also contain advice about fire drills.

I am sending copies to my hon. Friend.
