HC Deb 24 February 1970 vol 796 cc299-300W
Mr. Brian Parkyn

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the decision of the Roskill Commission to substitute a third completely new alignment of runways for the Thurleigh site for London's third airport, he will instruct the Commission to hold a new Stage II Inquiry in Bedford and compensate out of public funds the costs of those who gave evidence in the original Stage II Inquiry last September.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

This is a matter for the Commission on the Third London Airport but I understand that the Commission made it plain at Stage II that changes were to be expected in the light of the detailed studies at Stage III and this is what has happened. I understand that the question of the alignment and layout will be open to testing during the forthcoming Stage V hearing.
