HC Deb 24 February 1970 vol 796 c280W
74. Mr. Pardoe

asked the Minister of Transport what is the total mileage of the proposed M5 motorway between Birmingham and Exeter; how much of this is open to traffic; how much is under construction; for how much have contracts been placed; for how much tenders have been invited; for how much of the remainder has a line been confirmed or proposed; and by what date will the whole length he completed.

Mr. Bob Brown

170 miles, composed as follows:

Miles
Open to traffic 40
Under construction (contracts let) 75
Line advertised 35
Line not yet advertised 20
170

There is at present no invitation to tender outstanding.

We hope the route will be completed as far as Huntworth in 1974.

It is too soon to give firm completion dates for the remaining sections, but it is planned to have them completed or under construction by the mid-1970's.
