asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the establishment of nurses in each of the Nottingham hospitals in 1963; what were the numbers actually in post in that year; and what are the corresponding numbers now.

The following details relate to the hospitals situated within the boundaries of the County Borough of Nottingham. The establishment figures for 1969 relate to the establishment for which the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board have allocated funds to the Hospital Management Committees concerned. No comparable figures are available for 1963:—

The Sheffield Regional Hospital Board have allocated to this Group sufficient funds to cover a total nursing staff establishment of 755.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what were the number of entrants into the training grade of nurses during the last six months compared with the same period for each of the last three years.

These figures relate to the September intake, the largest of the year. There are two other intakes, in the first half of the year, to most hospitals.

More student nurses and less pupil nurses are recruited in the first half of each year than in the second half.
