HC Deb 23 February 1970 vol 796 cc238-9W
Mr. Higgins

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will amend the regulations covering National Health Service pensions so that a person, who is in receipt of a National Health Service pension and wishes to continue work within the National Health Service on a part-time basis, is not inhibited from working by the fact that his pension is reduced if his pension and part-time earnings exceed his salary at the date of his initial retirement; and whether the computation of retirement salary for this purpose can be adjusted to allow for inflation without any change in the regulations.

Mr. Crossman

The existing provision for abatement of National Health Service pensions on re-employment is one of the matters that will be covered by the review of the National Health Service Superannuation Scheme now being undertaken in the light of the Government's proposals for national superannuation. The current regulations preclude an adjustment of the kind mentioned by the hon. Member in the second part of the Question.
