HC Deb 23 February 1970 vol 796 c231W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many distressed British subjects were repatriated at the public expense in each of the past five years.

Mr. Luard

The number of cases of repatriation at public expense in 1964–65, 1965–66, 1966–67, 1967–68 and 1968–69 was 3,110, 2,290, 2,463, 2,667 and 3,028, respectively. Repatriations due to emergency conditions are additional; these totalled 196 in 1965–66 and about 1,500 in 1967–68. Each case may comprise one person or a whole family; figures showing the exact number of persons involved are not readily available.
