Mr. R. W. Brownasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what instructions she has issued to the Factory Inspectorate with regard to encouraging the use of flame-retardant flexible polyether foam as a substitute for inflammable foam plastics.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerIn my right hon. Friend's statement of 15th May last year on the Glasgow fire disaster she stressed the need for a better understanding of the fire risks from inflammable materials such as foamed plastic. Many inflammable materials are used in factories and even the flame-retardant version of foamed polyether is not free of fire risk. The vitally important thing, therefore, is the proper observance of fire precautions. As my right hon. Friend said in her statement, the factory inspectorate has paid special attention to this in the case of upholstery works.
