HC Deb 19 February 1970 vol 796 cc175-6W
64. Mr. Gordon Campbell

asked the Minister of Technology what action he is taking to improve the unemployment position in Scotland.

Mr. Varley

Through its development area policies, the Government are providing substantial preferential assistance to industry in Scotland, which is currently running at about £95 million a year. The Government also give priority to Scotland, along with other develop- ment areas, in operating the industrial development certificate control.

The unemployment position in Scotland in relation to Great Britain has improved since 1964 and policies will he vigorously pursued to build upon this achievement.
