HC Deb 19 February 1970 vol 796 cc180-1W
Sir W. Bromley-Davenport

asked the President of the Board of Trade to what further extensions to the suspension of duty on certain steel products include concessions in respect of reinforcing steel bars used in the construction industry; and whether, in view of the difficulties experienced by the shortage of such bars at the present time, he will consider further action in this field.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

The duty on reinforcing steel bar has not been suspended. Tariff action would not significantly ease the supply difficulties, and I do not consider that the nature of the shortage and the effect of the duty on users' costs are such as to warrant suspension.
