HC Deb 19 February 1970 vol 796 cc174-5W
Mr. Raymond Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from the Heanor Urban District Council regarding suggested amendments to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1963, in the interests of organisers of small lotteries; what reply he has sent; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The Home Office received a letter from the Heanor Urban District Council on 13th February which suggested amending Section 45 of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1963, to increase the limit of 10 per cent. of the proceeds of a small lottery which may be deducted on account of expenses. Any increase would have to be offset by a reduction in the amount of prizes, or in the contribution to the charitable or other purpose for which the lottery is promoted. On present information my right hon. Friend is not satisfied that there is a case for such a change. A reply to this effect is being sent to the Council.
