HC Deb 19 February 1970 vol 796 c169W
Mr. J. E. B. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what consultations he had with the Metrication Board, and on what dates, before deciding not to provide special financial assistance to education authorities towards the cost of replacing books and equipment rendered obsolete by the impending change to decimal and metric systems.

Miss Bacon

The Department is in touch with both the Metrication Board and the Decimal Currency Board as necessary but no question of a decision of this kind has ever arisen. My right hon. Friend has no power to make special grants to local education authorities to assist with any costs which may be involved in the change-over to decimal and metric systems.
