Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a further statement on the percentages of immigrant pupils in maintained primary and secondary schools in county boroughs with a population of 50,000 or more.

I welcome this opportunity to correct some of the figures given in Answer to the Question asked by my hon. Friend on 16th February. [Vol. 796, c. 48–50.] Because of a typing error the primary school figures in respect of county boroughs were transposed with those for secondary schools in county boroughs. All other figures including the totals given in the OFFICIAL REPORT [columns 49 and 50] are correct. I very much regret any inconvenience which has been caused. The figures are those for Commonwealth immigrant children and therefore are not directly comparable with those given in respect of years before 1969 when it was not practicable to differentiate Commonwealth immigrants from other immigrants. The complete table is as follows:
