HC Deb 18 February 1970 vol 796 c140W
86. Mr. Blaker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the relationship between movements in stock and the level of imports; and what saving to the balance of trade on an annual basis is made by a fall of 1 per cent. in the rate of stock accumulation.

Mr. William Rodgers

The relationship between changes in stocks and imports depends heavily on the composition of the change in stocks. Given a fall in the amount of stock accumulation a reasonable expectation of the direct saving in the balance of trade might be between a fifth and a third of the amount of the fall.
