HC Deb 18 February 1970 vol 796 c114W
37. Mr. Alasdair Mackenzie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland on what basis he makes decisions on applications as to future land use of sheep farms which come up for sale as between sheep and trees, and in cases where a sheep farm has received substantial improvement grants in recent years.

Mr. Buchan

Decisions on proposals by the Forestry Commission to acquire land for planting are made after consideration of a number of factors. In particular, the suitability of the land for afforestation and the requirements of the Commission's planting programme are balanced against the effect on agriculture including any loss in the value of improvements on which grant has been paid.
