Mr. W. H. K. Bakerasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many qualified dental technicians are working in general dental practices, in hospitals and in the school dental service; how many apprentices are registered; and if he is satisfied that sufficient people are being trained for such work in Scotland.
§ Mr. RossThe number of dental technicians employed by general dental practitioners is not known; in hospitals there were 79 at 31st March, 1969 and in the school health service there are thought to be about 10. At the current session at the four centres offering training facilities to dental technicians there are 166 apprentices attending classes. I have no reason to believe that this is not sufficient; but the position is being kept under review.
