§ Mr. Maddanasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when the Government will announce new proposals for supporting youth exchanges with Europe and other countries and its policy to recent proposals for the setting up of a National Office for Youth Exchanges, and for an increase in Government aid from £113,000 to £2½ million a year.
§ Mr. FoleyHer Majesty's Government are aware of the importance of encouraging purposeful exchanges of all kinds with Europe and other countries. They have no plans to establish a National Office for Youth Exchanges. Estimated expenditure from public funds on exchanges of young people with other countries, including education funds spent on foreign language assistants attached to British schools, already exceeds £2 million annually.
