HC Deb 17 February 1970 vol 796 cc81-2W
Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will make a statement concerning the staffing implications and the cost to public funds of the creation of his Directorate of Engineering as promulgated in Circular 9/70 of 4th February, 1970.

Mr. Greenwood

The Directorate of Engineering, which was created by reorganising the former Engineering Inspectorate, is being strengthened by 16 new professional posts, at an annual cost of £80,000 per annum, over the period 19691971. This increase is needed, irrespective of the reorganisation, for urgent work on water supply, sewerage and sewage treatment, pollution prevention and waste disposal.
