HC Deb 17 February 1970 vol 796 cc86-7W
Mr. Oakes

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many colliery tips in Lancashire have been grassed over or otherwise reclaimed with the assistance of public funds; what acreage was involved during the last five years; and how many such tips are to be reclaimed during the next three years.

Mr. Skeffington

Four schemes for some 106 acres involving colliery tips were completed by local authorities during 1965–69 with the aid of Government grant. During 1965–68 some 326 acres of spoil heaps of all kinds were reclaimed but these figures include land reclaimed without the aid of grant by public or private developers. During 1970–73 26 schemes for some 1,200 acres involving colliery tips are expected to be completed or started, including some where deduction of after-value may preclude grant.
