HC Deb 13 February 1970 vol 795 cc441-2W
Mr. Brooks

asked the Minister of Transport what has been the total capital expenditure on the Victoria-Euston line to date; what will be the total when the present extensions are completed; and what forecast relationship he obtained between revenue and total expenditure, including operating costs, maintenance, and capital charges, during the next five years, before he approved the line.

Mr. Bob Brown

The line between Walthamstow and Victoria cost £70 million and the estimated cost of the extension to Brixton is £20 million.

Forecasts suggested that revenue from fares would cover operating costs, includ- ing maintenance, and make a small contribution to interest on capital. Taking external and social benefits into account, the total return on this investment was estimated at over 10 per cent.
