HC Deb 13 February 1970 vol 795 c439W
Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many physiotherapists entered the National Health Service in 1969; and what percentage this represents of the total numbers qualified in 1968.

Dr. John Dunwoody

Information about entry to the service is only available in the form of net gains or losses and I regret that this would not enable the number of new entrants in 1969 to be related to the number qualifying in 1968. In 1968 558 physiotherapists qualified in National Health Service schools. There was a net increase of 38 physiotherapists—in terms of whole time equivalents—in the hospital service in England and Wales in the year ending 30th September, 1968. The figures for 1969 will be available shortly and I will write to my hon. Friend.
