HC Deb 13 February 1970 vol 795 c439W
Mr. Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) when hospital head-porters can expect a settlement of their pay claim;

(2) on what criteria head-porters have received an increase in pay of 23s. and staff-porters an increase of 38s.

Dr. John Dunwoody

The Ancillary Staffs Whitley Council agreed a new grading structure for non-supervisory grades, based on job evaluation, operative from 1st November, 1969. Generally the increases for portering grades ranged from 15s. to 30s. a week but an increase of 38s. might apply where there was a regrading of duties. The job evaluation for supervisors, including head porters, is not yet complete, but the Whitley Council hopes to begin negotiations on the structure and pay rates in March. Supervisors have had an interim increase of 23s. from 1st November, and their final settlement will also be effective from that date.
