HC Deb 12 February 1970 vol 795 cc387-8W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether, in view of the number of robberies that have recently taken place in East and North London, and the number of sexual and physical assault cases, he will arrange for Metropolitan Police engaged on dealing with parking offences to be redeployed to deal with these other crimes;

(2) whether he will redeploy a number of the Metropolitan Police, at present engaged in dealing with parking offences, to deal with armed robberies, physical assaults and other serious crimes.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

It is for the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis to decide how to deploy his forces; and my hon. Friend will know that traffic wardens are being employed to an increased extent on parking controls, so releasing regular members of the force for other duties.
