HC Deb 12 February 1970 vol 795 c406W
Mr. Oram

asked the Minister of Overseas Development whether she will make a statement about the extension of the territorial scope of the Commonwealth Development Corporation's activities following the passage of the Overseas Resources Development Act, 1969.

Mr. Whitaker

I am grateful for this opportunity to inform the House that my right hon. Friend has given approval for the corporation to undertake activities in Ethiopia and the Federal Republic of Cameroon, subject to consultation with the Ministry as to the scale and content of the corporation's intended investment programme in these countries. She has also agreed that the Commonwealth Development Corporation, as consultant to the World Bank, may carry out feasibility studies on behalf of the bank in developing countries, including some non-Commonwealth countries where it is not otherwise authorised to function. This consultancy work for the World Bank will not involve any cost to the corporation.
