HC Deb 11 February 1970 vol 795 cc341-2W
41. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council why, in view of the fact that Her Majesty's Government have recommended the payment of a £6 per day tax-free expense allowance to Members of the House of Lords, he will not initiate a similar scheme for Members of the House of Commons.

Mr. Peart

As I informed my right hon. Friend on 17th December, it is the Government's intention that the whole question of Members' remuneration, including their expenses, should be referred to the National Board for Prices and Incomes, or its successor, during the next Parliament.
