HC Deb 10 February 1970 vol 795 cc332-3W
Mr. Marks

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what provision is made in the Manchester region for treatment of hard drug addicts; and what provision is proposed for preventive facilities for those at risk.

Mr. Crossman

Treatment for addiction to heroin and heroin used in conjunction with cocaine is provided at an out-patient and in-patient centre at Prestwick Hospital, Manchester. Treatment for addiction to drugs other than heroin and cocaine is available at all psychiatric hospitals and units in the region or from general practitioners as appropriate. Research is at present being undertaken into public knowledge about drug taking and this will provide a basis for further preventive health education in this field.
