HC Deb 10 February 1970 vol 795 c333W
Mr. Gardner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the numbers of National Health Service doctors per 100,000 of the population in the Sheffield region as compared with the Metropolitan regions and the national average.

Dr. John Dunwoody

I assume that the Question refers to general medical practitioners. Information enabling it to be answered precisely in the terms requested is not available; but the following table gives the latest available information for executive council areas wholly or partly within the areas of the regions mentioned.

Area Number of doctors providing full general medical services per 100,000 population
Executive Councils wholly or partly within area of Sheffield Regional Hospital Board 38.6
Executive Councils wholly or partly within area of Metropolitan Regional Hospital Boards 42.9
England and Wales 41.5
