asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in

what was the unemployment rate in each of the existing development areas in January, 1970, 1969, 1968, 1967, 1966, 1965 and 1964.

Development areas were designated in August, 1966. Rates of unemployment for the development areas are available for each month from that date. Rates have also been calculated retrospectively for June each year for the years 1956 to 1966.

Following is the information for each January from 1967 to 1970 and for each June from 1964 to 1969:
