Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what was the total assistance for all purposes from national funds to assist the rate income of the county borough of Carlisle for the years 1966–67, 1967–68, 1968–69, and the estimated amount for 1969–70.

The total Exchequer grants paid to the county borough of Carlisle in aid of rates for the years 1966–67 to 1968–69, excluding the police grant, were as follows:

The police grant for 1966–67 amounted to £130,203; from 1st April, 1967 that grant became payable to the Cumbria Police Authority.

For 1969–70, only the amount of rate support grant is known at present. This is £2,231,039 compared with £1,993,190 in 1968–69, £1,790,174 in 1967–68, and corresponding grants for 1966–67 amounting to £1,655,577.
