asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many pensioners died in the recent influenza epidemic; and what was their average age.

In England and Wales from 13th December last to 30th January, there were 7,021 registered deaths of men and women aged 65 and over attributed to influenza. These are provisional figures. A more detailed analysis is not yet available.
