§ Mr. Cledwyn HughesNo. Unilever notified my Department under the early warning arrangements of proposed increases in the prices of its margarines and compound cooking fats. It was informed that a decision could not be reached until further information had been provided. After the early warning period had elapsed, the firm, owing to a misunderstanding, raised its prices before supplying additional information. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity and I have, however, now asked the National Board for Prices and Incomes to consider the trends of costs, prices and profitability in the margarine and compound cooking fats industry.
