HC Deb 05 February 1970 vol 795 cc175-6W
78. Mr. Fortescue

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage of teachers of science and mathematics, respectively, in secondary schools have honours degrees in their specific subject.

Miss Bacon

The statistics distinguish between good honours and other, not honours and other, degrees. In March, 1968, 46.1 per cent. of science graduates and 43.3 per cent. of mathematics gradu- ates in maintained secondary schools in England and Wales held first or second-class honours degrees.
