HC Deb 05 February 1970 vol 795 c176W
79. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is aware of the evidence of Professor Sternglass in the Proceedings of the Health Physics Society of America and in the Bulletin of the United States Atomic Scientists, details of which have been sent to him, that half a million children have died as the result of fall-out from atomic weapon tests, including 100,000 in the United Kingdom; and if he will cause the Medical Research Council to investigate the matter and report.

Mr. Fowler

Professor Sternglass's views regarding infant mortality in this country and elsewhere have already been assessed by an expert committee of the Medical Research Council. This committee has concluded that by normal scientific criteria the evidence he has collected does not prove, or even support, his hypotheses.
