HC Deb 03 February 1970 vol 795 c85W
Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what is the average rent of municipally-owned dwellings in England and Wales, in the Greater London Council area and in the London Borough of Wandsworth, respectively; and what proportion of each average rent is attributable to interest charges.

Mr. Denis Howell

On 31st March, 1968, the average weekly rent of local authority dwellings in England and Wales was 37s. 11d.; for the Greater London Council's 46s. 3d.; and for a sample of London boroughs 51s. 10d. I am informed by the London Borough of Wandsworth that its average weekly rent for 1967–68 was 47s. 9d. The figures I have given make no allowance for rent rebates.

It is not possible to identify the proportion of rents attributable to interest charges.
