HC Deb 02 February 1970 vol 795 c18W
75. Mr. Marks

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he will raise family allowances at least to a level that will enable him to abolish the wage stop, so as to provide an incentive to work.

Mr. O'Malley

We have no plans at present for an increase in family allowances. In any case, so far as the wage-stop is concerned, only one in 150 of the families benefiting from such an increase would be a family affected by the wage-stop, and there would be no help for wage-stopped families not receiving family allowances.
