§ Mr. Bishopasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many women have undertaken cervical smear tests in Nottinghamshire and Newark, respectively, in the past year; in how many cases were cervical cancer signs detected; and what further action is being taken to publicise facilities for such tests in those areas.
§ Dr. John DunwoodyI regret that the information asked for in the first two parts of the Question is not available, as the statistics relating to cervical cytology which are collected centrally do not include an analysis by place of residence. The Health Education Council intends 25W to investigate the reasons why women do not come forward for cervical cytology, with a view to devising more effective methods of persuasion.
