Mr. Clinton Davis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what investigations have been made by his Department into the use of the Potalyser, a chemical test which is said to detect whether cannabis has been smoked or handled.

The Home Office is making enquiries about the test which was the subject of a recent Press report.

Mr. Clinton Davis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what advice he has given to police forces in the use of the Potalyser test to detect whether cannabis has been smoked or handled; and if he intends to propose any amendment of the law relating to the possession of drugs as a consequence of the use of this test.

The answer to the first part of the Question is "None".

As regards the second part of the Question, no change in the law is contemplated at the present time.
