§ Mr. Skinnerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authorities have replaced slums at a rate, which, if repeated nationally, would have produced half a million new council dwellings for each of the past three years; and what special steps he will take to congratulate these local authorities.
§ Mr. AmeryThe relationship between the clearance of slums and the need to build new council houses is neither uniform throughout the country nor constant over time. It would be neither practical nor a fruitful use of the Department's time to attempt the exercise implied by the hon. Member's Question, but I sincerely congratulate all those authorities who have maintained, in relation to their size, a high rate of slum clearance.
