asked the Minister of State for Defence what size of British naval ships are expected to call at the proposed Diego Garcia base.

This will depend on the extent of the facilities to be provided there.

asked the Minister of State for Defence whether the proposed base at Diego Garcia will cater for Nimrod aircraft.

There are no such plans.

A small number of naval personnel will be provided when the facility is operational.
