HC Deb 15 December 1970 vol 808 cc291-2W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many claims for disablement benefit under the National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act were originally lodged at his Cumnock office in 1970 to the end of November; how many were submitted to a medical board; and how many successful or unsuccessful appeals were made to the Medical Appeal Tribunal.

Mr. Dean

During this period 594 such claims were lodged at the Cumnock office. Five hundred and forty-eight of the claimants have been examined by medical boards and 42 are awaiting boarding. During the same period 100 appeals to the Medical Appeal Tribunal have been made by claimants in the Cumnock area. Of the 78 appeals decided 21 decisions were favourable to the claimant, two were unfavourable and 55 resulted in the board's decision being upheld. Five appeals were withdrawn before hearing and 17 are awaiting hearing.
