HC Deb 14 December 1970 vol 808 c236W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what sample noise tests were made to the east of London Airport, Heathrow, in the months of July, August and September, 1970; where these were carried out and over what period; and how many aircraft produced noise that exceeded the specified limits.

Mr. Anthony Grant

Normal monitoring of noise from aircraft taking off was carried out at locations shown on the map I am placing in the Library. East of the airport such monitoring took place between various times on 7th and 8th July; 1st to 6th, 13th, 15th, 16th, 18th 19th and 22nd to 29th August; 7th, 12th and 21st to 29th September.

Eight infringements of noise limits by easterly take-offs occurred in July and 536 during August. In the latter month there was a higher than average number of easterly movements and a track-keeping problem emerged which is being discussed with the operators. Data for September have yet to be analysed.
