HC Deb 11 December 1970 vol 808 c201W
Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will set out in tabular form the number of local authorities in England and Wales undertaking new construction by direct labour in each of the years 1965 to 1970; how many dwellings were involved in each year; and how many schemes have already received loan sanction for 1971.

Mr. Channon

The numbers of local authorities and new towns in England and Wales which have been given approval for the erection of new housing by direct labour in the years 1967 to 1970 and the numbers of dwellings in those schemes are as follows:

Number of authorities Number of dwellings
1967 81 10,705
1968 82 12,454
1969 71 7,541
1970 (January-September) 42 3,660

Figures are not available for the years before 1967.

As loan sanction is given when schemes are approved it is not possible to give the information requested for 1971.
