HC Deb 10 December 1970 vol 808 c171W
85. Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many United Kingdom citizens from East Africa have taken up residence in India under the Indian-British agreement of July, 1968; how many of those have subsequently applied to come to the United Kingdom; and how many such applications have been granted.

Mr. Sharples

From 1st August, 1968, to 31st October, 1970, the passports of 5,371 United Kingdom citizens in Kenya who wished to settle in India were endorsed to the effect that they would be admitted to the United Kingdom. The number who travelled to India is not known, but 829 subsequently applied to come to the United Kingdom from India and all these applications were granted.
