HC Deb 10 December 1970 vol 808 c175W
Mr. Evelyn King

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has of the length of the weekly working week of a shop assistant and the number of hours of overtime worked.

Mr. Carlisle

In October, 1968, the average weekly hours worked by full-time assistants were: men, 41.4; women, 39.3; youths and boys, 41.2; girls, 39.9. No precise figures for overtime are available, but it seems that in each category the average amount was small.
