HC Deb 10 December 1970 vol 808 cc175-6W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the figures for the last three years for robberies of chemist shops, which have resulted in the stealing of dangerous habit-forming drugs.

Mr. Sharples

I regret that these figures are not available, and to obtain them would involve a disproportionate cost.

Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he proposes to take, in view of the concern about the spread of drug addiction, to enable pharmaceutical chemists to provide better protection for harmful drugs stored in chemist shops; and whether any financial assistance will be made available from public funds to chemists to undertake whatever safeguards are considered necessary.

Mr. Sharples

A new code of precautions for the safekeeping of controlled drugs is being drawn up, in consultation with the interested organisations. The question of assistance is also under consideration.

Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proposals he has to institute a system of registration for all persons whose work gives them access to dangerous and habit-forming drugs, during the manufacturing process, wholesaling and retailing as well as in hospitals and clinics.

Mr. Sharples

None.
