§ Mr. Idris Owenasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of the accidents, some fatal, which have 190W occurred to young people in the vicinity of overhead electric railway cables, he will give a general direction to British Rail to take urgent steps to minimise the danger from such cables.
§ Mr. Eldon GriffithsNo. It is not possible to guard against every kind of deliberate or foolhardy action. Such action has regrettably resulted in the death of six and injury of 32 children during the four years 1966–69 inclusive by contact with the overhead wire system. I would urge parents to take all the steps they can to ensure that their children fully realise the dangers of playing near railways.
