HC Deb 07 December 1970 vol 808 cc46-7W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of the increase in leisure activities in the decade ahead, he will consider greater publicity and popularisation of the ancient monuments in his care.

Mr. Amery

We spread knowledge of our ancient monuments as widely as we possibly can. If the hon. Member cares to visit the Information Centre in Parliament Street he will see for himself the effort put into this.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will circularise senior classes in secondary schools, sixth form colleges, technical colleges and other such institutions with material concerning the ancient monuments in his care.

Mr. Amery

There is, I am glad to say, welcome interest in ancient monuments within schools and amongst children of all ages. I shall continue to encourage that interest by providing leaflets and advice free on request.
