HC Deb 03 December 1970 vol 807 c438W
62. Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Chief Constable as to what steps he will take as a matter of urgency to improve police recruitment levels in the Oldham area where the divisional force is nearly 70 men under strength and up to 32 hours' overtime a month per constable is proving necessary.

Mr. Sharples

I understand that the Chief Constable of Lancashire plans a major recruiting campaign for his force. This will include a poster advertising scheme supplemented by newspaper advertising, recruiting shops in town centres, and exhibitions. The manpower requirements of the Oldham area are kept under close review.
