43. Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider a reduction in the minimum period to be served before parole is granted to those imprisoned without having a previously unsatisfactory record, particularly where the family situation is such as to make a return home desirable.

Mr. Maudling

I am keeping the scope of the parole scheme under close review and will bear this suggestion in mind; but it does involve some practical difficulties.
