HC Deb 01 December 1970 vol 807 c319W
50. Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has for changing the structure of local appeal tribunals.

Sir K. Joseph

A recent review of the number and distribution of Supplementary Benefit Appeal Tribunals has shown that appeals can be heard more speedily by concentrating the work in a smaller number of centres. After consulting the Council on Tribunals, I have decided to reduce the number of these tribunals from 151 to 119 and to re-locate some of them. Tribunal members are being informed of these changes which will take effect as from July, 1971.
