HC Deb 01 December 1970 vol 807 c325W
75. Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is taking to improve the mental health services of Hull and North Humberside.

Mr. Alison

Improvements and extensions are in hand at Tilworth Grange and Brandesburton Hospitals; further improvements at these and at Winestead Hospital are planned. The Regional Hospital Board hope during the next two years to add 15 beds to the children's unit at De la Pole Hospital and to improve the rehabilitation facilities there; and to start work on a 30-bed admission unit with out-patient facilities at Broadgate Hospital, Beverly.

My Department are to discuss further developments with the Regional Hospital Board in the light of the Government's decision that more resources should be allocated to mental health. The local authority capital programme for the mentally ill includes new day centres at Hull and Withernsea and a hostel at Bridlington.
